Dagobah time!

We’ve got a long level ahead of us, so let’s get started.

The level opens with Luke and R2 crash landing on Dagobah, R2 falling into the swamp, peeking out with his cute little sensor, and nearly getting eaten. As you can see, they put a lot of effort into making Dagobah atmospheric.

There’s rain, foggy lighting, nice texturing on the ground and trees, and of course we have John Williams’ mysterious Dagobah themes. Anyway, Luke can’t reach the minikit since he’s not trained in the Force yet, but there are some plants he can shoot for studs. Collecting the studs can be a pain, though, since they have a tendency to fall in the swamp. Well, Luke needs to build a couple of wooden ramps for R2 to go up, then they can explore the planet further and find a dark side gate.

Makes sense, since there’s that dark side cave and all. Oh, and there are bats. Lots of bats that will come flying at you over and over and drain health if they touch you. Kind of annoying, but they’re easy to shoot.

The real problem is the SNAKE.

Good thing Han’s not here – he’d probably wonder why it had to be a snake . . . oh wait, wrong movie, but a lot of people still headcanon Han as being afraid of snakes too. You’ve gotta shoot this bastard several times to get rid of him or else he’ll keep slinking behind you all creepy-like. Anyway, shoot one of the plants and it will reveal an ascension gun target that Luke can use to cross the swamp, but don’t worry about R2 – he can just duck under and use his ADORABLE sensor to get around.

Seriously, I just want to keep crossing the swamp as R2 because it’s so freakin’ CUTE! Oh well, we’ve got to Yoda, so have R2 fly over to an activation panel to bring up a bridge for Luke to cross.

In the next area, Luke can build a switch to step on.

This next part is a pain if you try to do it as Luke, so I switch to R2 and use his flying ability. Each switch you step on will bring up another switch somewhere in the swamp and you’re supposed to step on that switch to bring up another switch and so on until you cross the swamp.

Without R2’s flying, Luke needs to do precise jumps or else he’ll fall in the swamp, so it’s much easier to just use R2. On the other side of the swamp, Yoda comes out of his hut and demonstrates his power by lifting a rock that Luke happens to be standing on – HA!

Well, it’s training time. Luke changes clothes and just like in the movie, he gives Yoda a piggyback ride.

First is a simple Force lesson. With Yoda on his back, Luke can use the Force to make plants explode and slice apart flowers with his lightsaber. The bats, however, are REALLY annoying in this part – they will gang up on you over and over, forcing Luke to learn how to use his lightsaber. After you’ve destroyed the wildlife, go through another series of switches to cross the swamp again, but make sure you lightsaber these three lid-things on the ground to make a minikit appear.

Now make sure Yoda is on Luke’s back and use the Force to lower these mushrooms to the ground, then switch to R2 and get him on the mushrooms. The mushrooms will soon grow back to their original height, allowing R2 to fly over to the activation panel and unlock the next area.

Luke’s learning how to use the Force on his own now, so he can Force-lift some debris out of the swamp and use it to form . . . a tractor. Why a tractor? I dunno, why not a tractor?

You can even ride the tractor if you want.

Use the Force on the back of the tractor to make its bricks into a ramp, then R2 can go up the ramp into the trees and fly over to the activation panel to bring up yet another bridge. Then it’s time for . . . THE DARK SIDE CAVE!!

And look, another series of switches – and you can’t cheat with R2 on these. Nope, you’ve gotta do jump after perilous jump and one wrong move sends you falling to your death.

Oh, and there are these pretty glowing plants in the dark side cave too.

Some interesting glowing fungus, too.

Of course, you know who we’re gonna run into . . . DARTH VADER!!

Well, Force-vision Vader anyway. Give him a couple of whacks with your lightsaber and he’ll jump up to a higher ledge. You’ve gotta use the Force on some boxes to stack them up and reach dear old Dad. Every couple of hits, Vader will jump to a different ledge or the ground, so keep this up and he’ll eventually vanish, opening the gate out of the cave (no, no beheading or seeing Luke’s face under the mask here).

Whew, Force duels are exhausting, so let’s let off steam by destroying some more plants for studs. You also need to use the Force to make more plants freakin’ EXPLODE so you can build one of these circular lever-things and push it to bring up another bridge.

Dagobah sure has a complex system of underwater bridges. Anyway, we’re in the last area and OMG, look at all the shit we can play with!

Look out, Dagobah ecosystem, Luke’s got a lightsaber and he’s not afraid to use it! The only safe plants are the dark side plants – interpret that as you will.

Also, Luke can use the Force on some random bricks sticking out of the swamp to make . . . a washing machine?

When you’re done destroying the environment, have Luke and Yoda use the Force on some boxes to get up to a tree, push down a box, and use the debris from the box crashing to build an activation panel. R2 activating the panel will make the gate EXPLODE, revealing Luke’s X-Wing stuck in the swamp.

Luke can’t lift it due to not having enough confidence or whatever, so have Yoda lift it, which ends the level with Luke all impressed and then taking off with Yoda and Obi-Wan’s ghost disapproving. I guess Luke had his vision of Han and Leia in danger while he was destroying plants.

Well, Luke in pilot and training garb have been unlocked, but no new characters are available at the bar, so I’ll leave you with a Weird Al classic.
