Let’s rescue the queen. It’s the least we can do after destroying everything in the city.

There’s a new opening crawl when you start this level that details what’s been happening so far of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan finding themselves in the midst of a “PERFECTLY LEGAL invasion” (yes, complete with those capitalizations) and calling Jar Jar “a wise and resourceful local.” HA! Look, I like Jar Jar, but even I’ll admit that calling him “wise and resourceful” is a hilarious stretch.

Well, we’ve gotta find the queen now. Oh hey, there’s a tree decorated with strings of lights – is someone putting out early Fete or Life Day decorations? I also found an ice cream stand. Well, since the vendors apparently abandoned their stand when they got captured by battle droids, we can’t let the ice cream go to waste, can we? No, let’s slice the whole thing apart and collect the stud money.

We run into some battle droids surrounding Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala (or I guess it’s Sabe here, at least it is in the movie), and a handmaiden that I presume is Padme in disguise. One of the droids is yelling at the others that they need to get to the hangar. Another droid says he didn’t realize they were in a hurry and took the long way around to enjoy the sights, and the first droid worries that Gunray will have them melted down into sabacc dice.

Actually, you don’t need to worry about that, droid – we’re gonna slice you apart before you get a chance to be melted into dice. Once we take out the droids, we get a cutscene of Panaka and the queen (Sabe) telling the Jedi about the transports in the main hangar. Gotta say, the voice of Sabe here sounds nothing like either the real Queen Amidala or the fake one. She sounds too . . . soft.

Oh, the cutscene ends with Jar Jar saying “Yousa guys bombad!” and I wish I could hear Ahmed Best saying that line.

After the cutscene, Qui-Gon says we need to take the queen to “the Republic on Coruscant.” Wait, WHAT? The Republic isn’t “on Coruscant” – Corsucant is the CAPITAL of the Republic. For that matter, Naboo is PART of the Republic! Who wrote that line?

Well, even though the queen’s in danger and we have to get her off-planet ASAP, there’s still some time for exploring, right? I went to the Theed palace and a guard had a job for me. Turns out there are some broken statues that need fixing. Yup, that’s a perfectly good reason to delay getting the queen out of here.

The interior of the palace is gorgeous, just like in the movies, and there are even some people still hanging around. I sliced up a chair while a guy was sitting on it and he looked at me all shocked. There’s another guy eating ice cream – guess he got it before I destroyed the ice cream stand.

Also, I just discovered that if you’re playing as Jar Jar and you leave Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan hanging around for a while, Qui-Gon starts falling asleep and Obi-Wan wakes him up. Was someone playing Super Mario 64, by any chance?

I didn’t find any statue pieces in the palace, but I did find a Kyber Brick and when Jar Jar grabbed it he said “Jar Jar keepin this! It shiny!” Jar Jar refers to himself in the third person now? Did someone confuse him with Elmo?

Unfortunately, I don’t think you can complete the statue quest in Story Mode – I found and assembled a couple of statue pieces, but couldn’t find the others despite looking and looking. Where was I again? Oh right, the queen. Well, I’m sure she and the others are patiently waiting for us and haven’t gotten captured again.

Yup, there they are. We’ve gotta fight a lot of battle droids on the way to the hangar – funny how they didn’t start attacking the queen until we showed up. Maybe they’re really after the Jedi. Or Jar Jar.

When we get to the hangar, we take off, R2 fixes the ship like the little hero he is, and Jar Jar drinks hyperfuel and gets sick. I’ll see you when we get to Tatooine!

Padme’s got her Clone Wars voice actress in this game- so do Anakin and Obi-Wan, at least for their Episode 2 and 3 incarnations (and I’m pretty sure James Arnold Taylor also does OT Obi-Wan here too). Plenty of other characters from the prequels have their Clone Wars actors and most of the OT characters have experienced ones, like Matt Sloan as Darth Vader.
