It’s Attack of the Clones time!

I forgot to mention earlier that on the main menu, each episode has a little animation. The Phantom Menace had Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon fighting the droidekas while trying to open the door, and Attack of the Clones has Obi-Wan fighting Jango Fett (with water made of Lego studs like in The Lego Movie). Pretty cool, but not as cool as getting to explore the Mos Eisley Cantina in The Complete Saga.

Well, our opening cutscene has pilots getting airsick and the ship blowing up, but everyone’s revealed to be fine. So yeah, no Corde death. However, as soon as we get off the ship we can talk to people who witnessed the crash – turns out that approving an army of the Republic just got more popular in the last few minutes. Oh, there’s also a guy who claims that he’s moving to Alderaan because Coruscant isn’t safe anymore. Uh . . . yeah, good luck being safter on Alderaan.

Well, I went exploring and at one point I fell into a lower level with power cables and such and I found a datacard. According to the pop-up hints, datacards can be “used to unlock fun extras,” so let’s make a mental note of that.

By the way, I love how Coruscant is so crowded, but no one reacts to a senator running around destroying public property.

We take a cab to the senate building and lo and behold, there’s a guy reading a paper book on the steps. No, I have no idea what he’s reading, but since TLJ confirmed that paper books DO exist in the Star Wars universe, who’s to say we can’t have them on a high-tech world like Coruscant?

Oh look, the totally-not-evil chancellor has put giant pictures of himself up all over his office. I’m sure that doesn’t mean anything. And hey, he lets us destroy all his stuff and doesn’t even zap us with lightning, so I’m sure that means he’s totally good!

We talk to the absolutely-not-evil chancellor, Padme expresses her suspicions that Count Dooku was behind the assassination attempt, and Mace dismisses the idea. However, Palpatine has a picture of himself and Dooku on his desk – could that possibly mean something? No, of course not.

Anakin and Padme reunite and they’re already getting the hots for each other – emphasized with hearts around their heads, ha! Then Anakin and Obi-Wan need to escort Padme to her quarters as she just keeps walking . . . slowly. Great, an escort mission. Well at least she’s not stupidly going headfirst into danger like some escortees (is that a word?) in video games do. She’s just walking slowly and not stopping. At one point Anakin asks if its much further, to which Obi-Wan replies “Is mine and Padme’s company boring you already, my young padawan?” No, it’s not the company – it’s Padme’s walking speed. Seriously, can’t she just join the party like usual?

Anyway, we finally reach her apartment and she goes to her room, leaving us to destroy her furniture because that’s what good bodyguards do. After we’ve sufficiently emptied Padme’s apartment, we can go on to the midnight assassination attempt – which, since this is Lego, involves the bugs trying to drop a giant anvil on Padme. Because why not?

Before we go chasing after Zam, Obi-Wan warns Anakin to be careful where he shoots since there are civilians all over the place, so naturally I shot at some civilians to see what happens, which is Obi-Wan scolding you, saying things like “Anakin, we are Jedi. We’re supposed to protect the people, not shoot them out of the sky!” Hey Obi-Wan, your padawan’s gonna turn to the dark side later, it’s in his nature.

And crap, this is another rail shooter level with reverse Y-axis controls. I guess all the vehicle levels are gonna be like this. I liked it better in The Complete Saga when you got to roam freely and you had NORMAL controls. Anyway, we fly after Zam, shooting after her (and the civilians) until she crashes and Jango kills her with the toxic dart. I think this is a good spot to take a break. See you for Dex’s Diner and possibly Anakin and Padme going to Naboo. I remember how The Complete Saga left out a lot of crucial AOTC moments, so hopefully this game will remedy that.
