Happy Star Wars Day! What better day for the most iconic lightsaber battle in the saga?

May the Fourth be with you, everyone! Let’s head over to Bespin.

The opening cutscene shows Luke and R2 landing at Cloud City – and sharp-eyed players will notice something funny. Luke’s in his pilot’s uniform when he’s flying the X-Wing, but once the level starts – as soon as he lands – he magically changes into his Bespin outfit. HA!

Well, there are stormtroopers shooting at you (kind of counter-productive to Vader’s plan when he wants Luke alive, but whatever), so use Luke’s lightsaber to deflect their attacks back at them. Then fly R2 over to the platform the stormtroopers were on and have him activate the panel to extend part of a bridge. (but gah, the Power Brick is still out of our reach for now! So close and yet so far!)

We still need the other half of the bridge to get inside, though, so Luke will can use the Force on part of his X-Wing to make it into a bridge. I guess he figures he isn’t gonna need his X-Wing anymore after he rescues Han and Leia? Anyway, before you go in, make sure to have R2 fly around the corner to pick up the minikit. Sure, Han and Leia are in danger, but priorities!

The next room can get annoying, since stormtroopers will CONSTANTLY swing in and attack you (again, kind of counterproductive to Vader’s plan, but whatever). After collecting studs, you need to build a turret gun.

Then have R2 activate the panel in the wall to reveal a box. Push the box into the designated area, then use the Force to move the gun into place, then leap on it to shoot open the wall (all the while fighting stormtroopers).

In the next hallway, you’ll notice a bounty hunter lock – which makes sense since Boba’s lurking around here. Maybe this is where he keeps his stuff.

You’ll notice that your True Jedi meter fills up pretty fast since the level is pretty short – it should be almost full at this point. That’s both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it’s easy to fill it up, but on the other, if you fall apart even once, you might as well just restart the level if you want to get True Jedi.

Anyway, at the end of the hall is the fateful carbon freeze chamber, which has a stormtrooper lever for some reason.

But that doesn’t matter, since who should attack but . . . DARTH VADER!!!

Round 1 with Vader is fairly simple. After you give him a couple of whacks with your lightsaber, he jumps on one of the vents. Then R2 can activate the panel to make steam shoot out of the vents which doesn’t agree with Vader’s suit, so you’ll get an opportunity to strike him. Repeat the process until he jumps to the other end of the room, leaving some bricks behind. Use the bricks to fix the crane, then use the crane to drop R2 on the other side of the gap (watching his cute little legs flail around while doing so) and he’ll activate the panel that extends the bridge.

And here’s where you need to put on that stormtrooper helmet, since the door is locked to everyone except stormtroopers (and Vader, apparently).

And what do you know, Vader’s waiting for you.

For some reason he doesn’t attack you here though – instead he goes running and jumping off. You’ve got to use the Force to make one of those fans that shoot you up.

Yup, Luke still hasn’t taken off his stormtrooper helmet. Unfortunately, there’s a minikit here floating just out of reach.

I know I’ve said this before, but where’s Jar Jar when you need him? Even more frustrating, when you go floating on another fan, there’s ANOTHER minikit that you can’t quite reach while floating.

Well anyway, after floating and jumping, it’s time for Round 2 with Vader! Vader will likely knock off Luke’s stormtrooper helmet, but after he takes a couple of hits, he’ll jump up where you can’t reach (but notice the conveniently-placed vents) and a wave of stormtroopers will come at you. After taking them out (hopefully you’ve reached True Jedi by now, use the Force to make a ramp.

Now R2 can go up the ramp and activate the panel to drive Vader crazy with the steam and force him to jump back down. Give him a few more hits and he’ll jump back up to the vents – but on the other side, so now you have to build a platform and build one of those circular lever-things.

R2 will get on the platform and then Luke can push the lever to raise him to another activation panel. Here comes the steam, down comes Vader! Repeat this process until Vader runs off again. It’s like he’s teasing Luke because he has a big secret to tell him or something!

Vader Battle: Round 3! The music’s getting more intense to let us know that this shit is for real! As you’ll see, now our Dark Lord of the Sith has a pair of stormtroopers guarding him.

You can deflect their blasts back at them with your lightsaber, but that’s pointless since more will just show up in their place. Nope, to get rid of them, have R2 fly over to them and activate the panels that will close the floor panels and slice those bastards up! Yes, seriously.

After that, fly back and switch quickly to Luke. Vader will start Force-throwing shit at you much like Darth Maul did, and much like with Maul, you’ve got to Force-throw it back at him so he’ll jump over to you and you can give him a lightsaber whack. Repeat until Vader jumps through the window, breaking it in the process, but it leaves some convenient broken glass that Luke can make into a bridge with the Force.

Now what’s on the other side of the window? Do we dare find out?

This is it! The final round with Vader! We’re climbing up the edge where one wrong move can get you killed – but at least Vader will graciously let you get a minikit before he starts attacking you.

And R2 can fly to get another minikit. Sure, his friend’s in a life-or-death battle with a Sith Lord, but priorities.

Well, chase after Vader, whack him with your lightsaber enough times, and soon you’ll be at the fateful ledge and dear old Dad will slice off Luke’s plastic hand.

Since the characters don’t actually talk in the cutscenes (talking Lego characters would come in later Lego games, though), you might be wondering how Vader gives the Big Reveal. Well, simple – he shows Luke a picture of Anakin and pregnant Padme! Of course, Luke doesn’t take Daddy’s news well and throws himself down the chute like in the movie and ends up hanging upside-down under the city.

And it looks like he’ll be hanging upside-down for a while, since we’ve got one more level of ESB. This level unlocked Bespin Luke, but once again there’s no one new available at the bar, so I’ll leave you with DANCING HAN SOLO!

(No, it's very unlikely that I'll review Star Wars Kinect for this blog since I don't have an Xbox 360 or Xbox One and I know Kinect was flimsy at best, but the YouTube dancing clips are awesome!)

May the Fourth be with you!

May the Fourth be with you!

Funny, as Disney Magic Kingdoms is running a New Hope event around this time. (Probably intentionally)

I loved this version of Vader’s reveal when I was a kid
