It’s time to head over to Theed and rescue the queen. Let’s go!

I ran into Boss Nass at the cantina and briefly switched to him. Unlike Jar Jar, he doesn’t have the super jumping ability – in fact he can’t jump very high at all, making him pretty useless if you actually use him in the game, but if he stands idle he’ll do that shaking-mouth-spit thing, without the actual spit. So, that’s something. Plus, his Lego smile is kind of cute.

But anyway, let’s head to the next level.

The opening cutscene shows Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan saving Padme and her forces from the battle droids – well actually Qui-Gon does all the work while Obi-Wan has difficulty turning on his lightsaber – HA! Qui-Gon also gives an epic Lego facepalm. Anyway, you start this level controlling Padme . . . or is it Sabe? No, it’s Padme when she’s in the red dress. You’ve also got Captain Panaka as the second character and they both use blasters. Finally we’ve got characters with blasters! You can of course use blasters to shoot everything in sight to bits and it’s actually more fun that using the lightsaber because the blasters work faster. For example, it was SUPER satisfying to shoot these doors to pieces.

As a bonus, blaster-carrying characters can use ascension hooks to swing up to higher places. Yes, the feature that was used a grand total of one time in the entire saga is now standard for ALL blasters! Han was right – hokey religions and ancient weapons are NO match for a good blaster at your side. Jedi don’t get all the toys.

By the way, I love this background of Theed here, so pretty.

Well, we use our ascension guns to go up to the balcony and shoot the battle droids to pieces and we should probably be trying to escape, but nah, I wanna shoot stuff for studs first. You can actually shoot the windows to go inside the palace for extra studs.

There’s also this giant picture of Padme, but it can't be shot – you need the Force for it.

Come to think of it, where did Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan go? Did they have to use the men’s room after setting Padme free?

Incidentally, I love how you can actually see little bugs flying around the vines here (you might have to look carefully to see them in the screenshot, but they're there).

Yeah, I’m a sucker for details like that in games.

Anyway, after we take out the battle droids on this large balcony, we run into this weird puzzle-block-thing. We’re supposed to push the blocks into the right spots to finish the Padme picture and get a surprise, but we don’t have enough blocks. One block can be built, but we can’t access the rest without the Force.

So yeah, looks like we’ll have to wait for Free Play mode for that, especially since there’s this strange bunch of flowers that are sparkling red . . . meaning only the DARK side of the Force can affect it.

The next area has a minikit if you do a little exploring.

And OH MY GOD, the Theed palace is beautiful. It’s so much fun to just run around it. You’ll even see little Lego birds fly by if you keep your eyes open (look in the upper right-hand corner of the screenshot).

With John Williams' awesome music playing as well, it seriously is like you’re playing In the movie. It’s amazing that a Lego game pays this much attention to lovingly capturing the look and feel of the movies, but here we are.

Anyway, I’m gonna take some time to shoot the windows piece-by-piece to get more studs. It can take a while since aiming up high can be unpredictable, but for the True Jedi meter to fill up, it’s worth it. Also, you might end up killing Captain Panaka while trying to shoot the windows. Sorry, buddy.

There’s also a lower balcony you can jump down to and if you run all the way to the end of it, there’s a minikit.

See, it’s worth exploring every nook and cranny. Anyway, when we get to the next area, we FINALLY reunite with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.

Do I want to know what those two were up to? Well, there are battle droids to fight and stuff to blast apart and leave behind scorch marks. There’s also an area you can get to via ascension gun that has this tiny dog door . . . thing.

Yeah, all our characters are too big to fit through it, but maybe we’ll find someone smaller later. All these areas out of our reach.

Anyway, when you’re done destroying shit, you’ve got to blast the pots on top of these elevators to activate them, then get on the elevators and shoot the targets to open the gates. So many security measures to get Padme out of her own palace.

The next area is this big balcony with a lot of studs we can acquire, so it should be easy to fill up your True Jedi meter here after you finish off the battle droids (again, if you haven’t fallen apart too many times). You can even use the Force on these plants for studs and then destroy them for more studs.

I guess Jedi don’t care much for plant life. You’ll also need to step on the buttons on top of the giant dome things to make these little dome things that look like R2 explode.

One of the little domes has a minikit inside, but CRAP, we can’t get it. Not even a lightsaber will break its shiny gates. Maybe later we’ll get some characters who have something stronger than a lightsaber.

Also, we get our first look at a rare purple stud! But alas, it’s surrounded by those mysterious dark side sparkles.

After we’re done collecting studs, we can blast open the gate that IS destructible, then jump in the hole to watch a cutscene of the battle droids just chillin’ out before the gang lands on them. They take off in Padme’s ship and the level ends.

By the way, when I got back to the cantina, a fight broke out. Yeah, sometimes random fights can break out at the cantina where people start breaking each other apart. It's hilarious.

Anyway, now that Queen Amidala and Captain Panaka have been unlocked, who can we buy now? Well, we’ve got a Naboo royal guard . . .

. . . and Padme in her handmaiden disguise.

See you soon (likely tomorrow) for when we go to Tatooine!

Simple level, though the opening cutscene with Obi-Wan being silly was always funny. Not much else to say other than I wonder if Lego ever put out a Theed Palace set when Phantom Menace was new.
